"Clam down" is going to be my new all-purpose reaction to people who sound like crazy men. If they are actually crazy, it'll freak the hell out of them. "CLAM DOWN, MAN! CLAM DOWN! OYSTER! CLAM CLAM! BIVALVE!"From The Evergreen State College
The Geoduck Fight Song
words and music by Malcolm Stilson, 1971
Go, Geoducks go,
Through the mud and the sand,
let's go.
Siphon high, squirt it out,
swivel all about,
let it all hang out.
Go, Geoducks go,
Stretch your necks when the tide
is low
Siphon high, squirt it out,
swivel all about,
let it all hang out.

Goat hostage is playing catch-up today. ...enjoyed all of your blogs. I finished a thousand word essay that I am submitting to a magazine. My first official submission. At this time of my life, rejection would not be devastating. Devastating is thinking about the death of one of your favorite writers before his fiftieth birthday. It leads one to ponder why many who show brilliance early decide to leave early. Perhaps there are advantages to late bloomers. They have the benefit of retrospective thought and experiences that let them manage the outside world's perception of them. (And to not give a damn.)
I am inclined to agree about us late bloomers. We accumulate years or decades of life experiences without anyone (excluding the NSA) examining our mistakes under a microscope.
I wish you luck, Goat Hostage, on your submission. In an era where words tend to be co-opted into meaninglessness, it is important to have writers still working to do just the opposite - handle words with love and care, and restore dignity and meaning to them. Even words like 'dagnabbit'.
